Maria Mutola successfully defended her 800m title at the City
of Manchester Stadium with an impressive final sprint. Her
winning time of 1:57.35, was a new Games record. Diane Cummins
Canada was 2nd with Agnes Samaria of Namibia 3rd. Behind these
3 were impressive performances from Susan Scott of Scotland
]who set a new Scottish record with 1:59.30, as well as the
impressive sub2min run of England's 17yr old, Charlotte Moore
in 1.59.75.

South Africa's Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, stepped out the 'shadow'
of Hezekiel Sepeng to held off the challenge of Kenyan Joseph
Mutua to win the Commonwealth Games 800 metres. Joseph Mutua
was 2nd in 1:46.57, with Australian, Kris Mccarthy, providing
the 'big' surprise in bronze position.
