Copenhagen Marathon 20 May 2007

 

The Men and Women's marathon kicked off day one of athletics, with an outstanding home performance by Australia's Kerryn McCann defending the title she won in Manchester in 2002.

In the Men's marathon, Tanzania crowned a new champion in the form of Samson Ramadhani.

Marathon Women 19/03 Winner Kerryn McCann Australia Time 2:30.54
Kerryn McCann of Australia retained the title she captured in Manchester 2002, with a devastating sprint finish to overall Kenya's Helen Cherono. McCann's winning time was 2:30:54 with England's Liz Yelling taking the Bronze ahead of Wales Tracey Morris.

Marathon Men 19/03 Winner Samson Ramadhani Tanzania Time 2:11.29
Samson Ramadhani Nyonyi of Tanzania has won an action packed Men's Marathon in a time of 2:11:29. Ramadhani a medalist at the Helsinki World Championships in 2005 took over from compatriot, Francis Naali the 2002 winner. Naali finished 8th. Tanzania adopted a team tactic which kept the pace true allowing Ramadhani the chance to stalk Kenya's Fred Mogaki who had followed the early pace of Tanzania's Christopher Njunguda. Daniel Robinson of England followed up on his success of the 2005 World Champs by claming the Bronze in 2:14:50
