Wednesday saw the inaugural event of the Women's 3000m SteepleChase Final take place on the Day 4 of the Athletics program.
Uganda's Dorcus Inzikuru, the favourite and winner at the Helsinki 2005 World Championships, took the expected Gold. Much to the joy of the home crowd , Australians filled the next 3 positions on a day which will be marked in history.
Earlier during day's events the Men's and Women's 800m heats were run
Kenyan's Lucy Wangui and Evelyne Wambui took Gold and Silver in the Women’s 10,000m. see below
SteepleChase Women Winner Dorcus Inzikuru Uganda Time 4:06.21
A great night for the Aussie fans, despite the winner coming from Uganda. Dorcus Inzikuru won in a time of 9:19.51 which goes down as a Games Record. Chasing her home were four Australians, led by Melissa Rollison in a new National Record of 9:24.29 closely followed in the Bronze position by Donna Macfarlane in 9:25.05. In 4th was Victoria Mitchell also within her Personal Best (PB) time with 9:34.24
