Second and final wave of selections

UK Athletics have today named a further 5 athletes in the second and final wave of selections for the 11th IAAF World Indoor Championships that take place in Moscow 10-12 March 2006.

Mark Findlay (60m), Neil Speaight (1500m), Nathan Morgan (Long Jump), Jeanette Kwakye (60m) and Joice Maduaka (60m) have been added to the team that will travel to Russia in two weeks time.

Kwakye has been selected subject to fitness following the thigh injury she suffered during the AAA championship, whilst Morgan, who is yet to make the qualifying mark of 8.10m this season, has been given special dispensation by selectors to attempt it at this Saturday’s Athina meeting in Peania, Greece.

UK Athletics Performance Director Dave Collins said:

"It was a unanimous decision by selectors that Nathan Morgan should be allowed this final opportunity to achieve the 8.10m required to be eligible for the championships.

"His season's best currently ranks him as 12th in the world despite limited competition opportunities, and his recent performances including splitting two of the World's leading jumpers at the Norwich Union Grand Prix show he is in excellent shape."
