Tommy Boyle, one of the nation's most revered athletics coaches and a very successful figure in business and Lena Wilson, one of the most senior figures in today's Scottish economy will both join the scottishathletics new Interim Strategic Board which will gather for its first meeting on Sunday 29 October.
Tommy Boyle has over 35 years of coaching athletes to the very highest level in the sport. Athletes under his guidance have won an incredible 23 medals at Commonwealth, European, World and Olympic level.
This success is mirrored in his professional career, where he is equally effective in a performance-driven environment. He has a proven track record working for blue chip companies in the electronics industry as an Operations Manager that have lead to massive improvements in productivity.
Tommy Boyle said: "I have proven I have the capacity to operate successfully at world class level, both in sport and in business. I have not been able to become involved in the sport in this way before because I have been so deeply involved with my athletes.
"But now a window of opportunity has emerged and I look forward to lending my experience and expertise to scottishathletics.
Lena Wilson is the Chief Operating Officer of Scottish Enterprise, one of the most senior roles the nation's business sector, which includes managing a budget of £500m and a staff of 2000.
At only 42, she also has a huge amount of international experience having worked in over 20 countries throughout the world advising Governments on economic development strategies.
She also has a strong interest in the sport, both as a spectator and as a participant, in which she has ran many 5k and 10k road races.
Lena Wilson said: "What attracted me to scottishathletics is that I think it is important to put something back. I've always loved athletics and I believe it has a great role to play in helping young people, helping people to shape a positive lifestyle and contributing to the overall confidence of Scotland as a country.
"I have plenty of experience with international and national government, I am well connected and I believe I can help position athletics better, so that it is better placed to secure funding for its development."
Geoff Wightman, Chief Executive, scottishathletics said: "To think big, you need big thinkers and in Tommy and Lena, we have that. They are both hugely talented individuals who bring an enormous range of abilities to the table.
"I very much look forward to working with them both as we strive to turn athletics into Scotland's most successful sport."
The Interim Strategic Board will take responsibility for the overall planning of the organisation and the wider sport and - if the format is successful - will be proposed as a permanent structure to the 2007 scottishathletics Annual General Meeting (AGM) for elections.
Working alongside this group will be a new Interim Management Committee which will include Convenors of the scottishathletics Commissions for Officials, Development, Road Running and Cross Country, Track and Field, Development and Hill Running as well as senior members of staff.
This group will take responsibility for the operational delivery of the sport. No new directorships will be created before the 2007 AGM. In accordance with the articles of association, the formal governance of the sport will continue to be overseen by the existing Board of Management, which will take progress reports at four meetings through to summer 2007.
