International Match Launch

Muir - Scotland

Laura Muir (coach: Andy Young) joined children from Shettleston Harriers Athletics Club, as the 20 year old confirmed that she is to compete at the Glasgow British Athletics International Match on Saturday 25 January.

The European Under 23 bronze medallist, who also reached the 800m semi-finals at the IAAF World Championships is looking forward to competing in front of a home crowd at the Emirates Arena in the first event of the 2014 British Athletics Series as the city prepares for the Commonwealth Games in July.

“I’m really looking forward to going back to the Emirates Arena after competing there earlier this year. Having the Scottish crowd there is a massive boost for me and I can’t wait to get out there.

“The public is really looking forward to Glasgow 2014 and I think there will be a lot of support from the people in Scotland at the Glasgow British Athletics International Match.”

Muir was joined by fellow Scot and GB & NI teammate Jamie Bowie (Piotr Haczek), as the duo were put through their paces by 30 young athletes from the club in a Q&A session. Bowie, who was a part of the 4x400m team in Moscow hopes that his story can help unearth the next Scottish superstar.

“Laura and I were lucky to meet some children from Shettleston Harriers to promote the Glasgow British Athletics International Match, which promises to be a great event ahead of the Commonwealth Games. I think I’m going to do a short indoor season to bring myself up to speed ahead of what promises to be another big outdoor season.

“This is where I started my athletics career and I hope by coming here I can inspire one person to believe in themselves and take their athletics to the next level.”
