British Athletics has announced their selection policy for the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China 22 – 30 August 2015.
The selection criterion is in line with British Athletics’ strategic aim of winning medals at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and at London 2017. The policy is structured to name a team with the aim of winning medals in the Chinese capital and to create opportunities for developing athletes who are on the pathway towards individual medal success at future Olympic Games.
The selection policy reflects the new IAAF qualification criterion, in which there are a number of potential different scenarios an athlete can be selected to the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team.
Guaranteed Selection
Selection can be guaranteed if an athlete finishes in the top two at the Sainsbury’s British Championships and have at least two qualifying standards or is the reigning European champion
Reigning World champion
Combined Events athletes who finished in the top 12 at the 2015 Gotzis Hypo Meeting, with at least one qualification standard
Athletes may also gain selection at the discretion of the selection panel if they have a least one qualification standard and have realistic potential to finish in the top eight of their event in Beijing or deemed to have medal success at future Olympic Games.
For the first time, selection may also be gained by an IAAF World Ranking Invitation.
